Set in beautiful grounds in the village of Great Lumley we are a vibrant, friendly and caring school with high academic and pastoral standards. We have consistently been graded Outstanding by Ofsted; most recently in June 2013, where inspectors reported, “Children thrive in the happy, family atmosphere of this school. All make outstanding progress in their learning and personal development.” The standard of teaching and learning is extremely high and the behaviour of pupils is exemplary. Our philosophy is very simple and is described in our school motto, “Fun to teach and fun to learn.” Through creative, innovative and engaging activities our children are inspired, enthused and motivated to learn and have lots and lots of fun along the way! Our unique partnership with the St. Stephen’s Kamuge-Olinga Nurseries in Eastern Uganda began in 2014 with an email from Father Deo Eriot, a parish priest and Directors of the nursery schools. He was visiting one of the nurseries to perform daily mass when a little boy knelt before him wearing a T-shirt with a badge on the left hand side that read Lumley Infant and Nursery School. The little boy is called Julius and his mum bought him the T-shirt from the market in Pallisa. Deo travelled to Pallisa town to search for our school on the internet. Indeed, he found us. We were intrigued and eager to find out more about the journey of the magical T-shirt and its owner. The owner of the original T- shirt was Kate Holmes. She was delighted that her old T-shirt had a new owner and was really eager to learn more about Julius and his friends. A true testament that friendship has no boundaries. Through kind donations from parents, staff and the community of Great Lumley, we sponsor Julius’s education. He dreams of becoming a doctor, we are committed to making this come true. Our friendship and partnership has grown from strength to strength with one important aim of providing early years education for the children in this incredibly remote and rural area of Eastern Uganda. Life is simple, hard and challenging but despite this, every child has amazing aspirations for their future. At the heart of their dreams is education . Our children are tomorrow’s global citizens and I am incredibly proud of their commitment, passion, empathy and desire to help their friends in Uganda. Who would have thought an outgrown T-shirt could become so magical and unite a school, local community and indeed the world!
